15 Weird Facts and Feats

Since Wil, as payback, tagged me to list down 15 weird facts about myself, I have been mentally working on the list on and off for the past couple of weeks. I thought myself to be quite normal since I found it difficult to come up with a list of 15 weird facts. Hmm…should I just say I bite my nails 15 times a day? Would that qualify for all 15?

“Oh, wow,” I thought at first, “I must normal!” Until I am reminded of certain facts like…

  1. I can only sleep well if I sleep on my stomach, and with my arm around a baby pillow.
  2. I graduated 13th honor after 10 years of Chinese language classes…and am still only semi-literate in Mandarin (I fooled my teachers! BWAHAHAHA!!).
  3. I can put on my contact lenses in under 15 seconds--without the aid of a mirror!
  4. After a traumatic first-time experience of baby sitting, it took me many years to get over my fear of children…and I have rarely babysat since--even with my own nieces!
  5. I am embarrassingly slow at telling time with analog watches…thus all my wristwatches have been (and always will be) digital.
  6. I have difficulty figuring out the “open” and “close” symbols in elevators…I am sorry to the many I have victimized because of this…err…lapse.
  7. If I do not get to eat McSpaghetti or McDonald’s Longganisa Rice within a couple of weeks, I don’t feel well.
  8. I have an earthy, politically incorrect sense of humor that gets me snickering at the oddest, most inappropriate occasions.
  9. From childhood until now, I have moved house 24 times—and even then, I am no expert. I still lose something after every move ( a pair of shoes, a belt, a blouse, a pair of earrings, and lately, a pair of sandals, and, soon, quite possibly, my head.)
  10. I have seen “While You Were Sleeping” so many times I have memorized the script.
  11. I consider “The Simpsons” a serious comedy that accurately portrays/ parodies a certain segment of American society. I feel the same way about “Third Rock from the Sun” which parodies modern society and human behavior.
  12. I am proud of the gap between my two front teeth—it gives me “character” and puts me in the same league as Madonna and Lauren Hutton. So I can’t understand why my dentists are obsessing about closing it up or getting me braced!
  13. And speaking of dentists, I love to go for prophylaxis so much that she has to shoo me away and tell me to come back after 3 months.
  14. And speaking of dentists, I am proud to say I have very high pain threshold. The dentists don’t need to give me anesthesia when I go for major tooth filling projects.
  15. And speaking of prophylaxis, I meet regularly with a friend who is a trained counselor, over a cup of coffee. We vent, do small talk, a bit of soul searching and self-examination. She gives me what I would like to call my psychological prophylaxis—just so I know my neurosis is still within socially acceptable levels. (And I guess the fact that I do this would already tell you I am certifiably weird!)
Fear not! I won't be tagging people--but anyone who wants to re-evaluate their WQ (weirdness quotient), feel free!

You should marry a dentist.

I didn't know that you were supposed to get anesthesia for tooth fillings. I've always thought that you were supposed to feel things so that you could tell if your dentist was doing something wrong.

on the other hand, could it be possible that my dentists were sadists. hmmm...

At least you were an honor stude in your Chinese class, ako pasang awa lang, hehe. My Mandarin is, at best, good only for bargaining when in HK. Di kasi ako marunong mag Cantonese, huhuhu. :-D

On #6, I hope I'll never run into you in an elevator, hehe. Joke lang...

# 10 tells me that you're an incurable romantic. Totoo ba? ;-)

And yes! The Simpsons rocks! Actually, they parody every segment of the American society and then some...

shucks mare! While You Were Sleeping is also my favorite and yeah! I know the lines also...at talagang nakatago pa ang VHS copy namin nyan sa bahay na ewan ko gasgas na siguro sa paulit-ulit na panonood hehe

No anesthesia? That sounds painful just thinking about it. Perhaps you could work as a spy. If you ever get caught and tortured, they'll never get any information outta you. Is there a philippine equivalent of the CIA? hehe.

McSpaghetti or Mcdonald's Longanisa rice? They don't have those here. Well, naturally. It'd be weird if they had longanisa rice here in the states. hehe.

Hey that's a big list of ka-wirduhan nga. Although i can say I liked third Rock from the Sun too.

Wow, may McLongganisa? Must try it for sure when i go back home.

You are truly a gypsy girl!!

and shame on you, you cannot even read time on analogue--i can tell time even without a watch.

yes, you are weird in many ways.

Huhmm, McSpaghetti must be so luscious. I haven't tried it yet but maybe I would this time around.

i also sleep on my stomach. i think it was because i was so scared of opening my eyes and seeing someone in front of me that i got to be like that.

Amen on "While you were Sleeping"!!!

I developed a thing for Bill Pullman and trains because of this movie. Don't you just love that speech Sandra did at the wedding (or wedding that didn't happen)?

Amen on The Simpsons AND Third Rock! I haven't heard anyone mention 3rd rock from the sun in ages! One of my fave sitcoms of all time.

So you've done a lot of moving around. Now I know why you call yourself Gypsy.

I wore contacts before, but I could never put them on without a mirror. Hard or soft, btw?

I definitely agree with Hoop's suggestion - marry a dentist! At least you wouldn't have to pay him for the dental work. :D

Jap, hehe..actually its only when I did this list that I realized how obsessed I am with my teeth-though not obsessed enough to be faithful with flossing, I'm afraid...:)

Alternati, I just love Third Rock, I have been scouring around for DVDs of Third Rock but to no avail..haay!

Hey Flue! Musta na jan??? Sige, ikaw mag set up ng fan club, I will be the first to sign up! Hehe...

Kathy, so you see, feat talaga yan...hehe..I use disposable na since I developed an allergy vs soft lenses na extended wear..:) As with marrying a dentist, hehe, dapat yong magaling nag prophy! Bwehehe...

i really enjoyed reading your 'weird' things. what's with dentist fixation? it's amusing to read that part. i remember the last time i was in manila and i went to this dental clinic in one mall [it wasn't included in my plan to see one]. When the dentist saw me, she asked if i always use dental floss. i said yes, everytime i brush my teeth...lol. i was advised not to overdo it. it's a habit already. :)

Oh my, we have something in common. I keep forgetting what to press to open or close elevator doors. And yes, ang dami nang dapat nabayaran ko ng damages. I need a verbal sign .. not that the color codes.

Nice to know more tidbits about the gypsy!
